PROPRIETARY M42 Heat Treatments
- Annealing at 860 - 900°C, hold for at least 3h, furnace cooling by 10°C/h to 700°C, cooling in air. Stress relieving at 600 - 650°C, hold for at least 2h, cooling slowly to 500°C and then in air. Hardening: Initial slow preheating to 450 - 530°C, second preheating to 950 - 880°C, heat to a temperature in the range 1160 - 1190°C and hold at temperature, cooling in oil or salt bath at 530 - 580°C. Tempering immediately after hardening at 540 - 580°C.
