BDS 1.1201 Heat Treatments
- Austenitizing (at least 30 min), quenching in water or oil: 820-860°C (the temperatures at the lower end of the range are generally applicable to quenching in water and those at the upper end for quenching in oil), other quenching agents such as synthetic quenchants may also be used; Tempering: 550-660°C (at least 60 min); End quench test: 850 (±5°C); Normalizing: 840-900°C, austenitizing (at least 30 min).
- Austenitizing (quenching in water or oil): 820-860°C, t > 30 min. NOTE: The temperatures at the lower end of the range are generally applicable to hardening in water and those at the upper end for hardening in oil. Synthetic quenchants may also be used. Tempering: 550-660°C, t > 60 min. A mandatory end quench test shall be carried out at 850+/- 5°C. Normalizing: 840-880°C, t > 30 min.
