PROPRIETARY Uddeholm Polmax Heat Treatments

  • Soft annealing: Protect the steel and heat through to 890°C. Then cool in the furnace at 20°C per hour to 850°C, then at 10°C per hour to 700°C, then freely in air.
    Stress-relieving: After rough machining the tool should be heated through to 650°C, holding time 2 hr. Cool slowly to 500°C, then freely in air;
    Hardening: Preheating temperature: 600-850°C; Austenitizing temperature: 1000-1050°C but usually 1020-1030°C (At 1020°C) - Soaking time: 30 min, Hardness before tempering: 56±2 HRC; At 1050°C - Soaking time: 30 min, Hardness before tempering: 57±2 HRC);
    Quenching media: Oil, Martempering bath at 250-550°C then cool in air, Vacuum furnace with sufficient overpressure, Circulating air or atmosphere (Temper he tool as soon as its temperature reaches 50-70°C);
    Tempering: Choose the tempering temperature according to the hardness required by reference to the tempering graph. Temper twice with intermediate cooling to room temperature. Lowest tempering temperature 180°C. Holding time at temperature minimum 2 hr.
