ASTM A 193 B6X Heat Treatments
- Use of water quenching is prohibited for ferritic grade when heat treatment is performed after heading or threading. The minimum tempering temperature shall be 593°C. The material shall be held at this temperature for a minimum time of 1 hour. Bolting material that is subsequently cold drawn for dimensional control shall be stress-relieved after cold drawing. The minimum stress-relief temperature shall be within not more than 55°C (100°F) below the tempering temperature. Tests for mechanical properties shall be performed after stress relieving.
