AISI 416 Heat Treatments
- Annealed, or hardened and tempered as specified. Liquid quenching shall be permitted only by agreement with the purchaser
Heat treating at 955°C ± 14°C (1750 ± 25°F) and quenching in the air (samples for testing shall be in the form of a section not exceeding 9.50 mm in thickness). - Annealing: Heating to 816-899°C (1500-1650°F), furnace cool to 14-28°C (25-50°F) per hour to 593°C (1100°F).
Austenitizing temperature: 954-1010°C (1750-1850°F), medium for quenching: oil, air or polymer.
Recommended subcritical anneal: 649-788°C (1200-1450°F), air cool.
