SAE 5655 Heat Treatments
- Bars, wire and forgings shall be hardened by heating to 1052°C ± 14°C (1925°F ± 25°F), holding at heat for not less than one hour, and suitably quenching and tempered by heating to a temperature not lower than a furnace setpoint of 593°C (1100°F), holding at heat for not less than four hours, cooling in air, reheating to a temperature not lower than a furnace setpoint of 538°C (1000°F), holding at heat for not less than four hours and cooling in air.
