SAE 5349 Type I Heat Treatments
- Hardening:
Heat to 1750°F ± 10°F (954°C ± 6°C), hold at heat for 60 min/in (25 mm) of maximum cross section but not less than 30 minutes, and cool at a rate equivalent to air cool.
Hardening and Tempering:
Heat to 1750°F ± 10°F (954°C ± 6°C), hold at heat for 30 minutes ± 3 minutes, and cool at a rate equivalent to still air cool. Heat to 1350°F ± 15°F (732°C ± 8°C), hold at heat for 60 min/in (25 mm) of maximum cross section but not less than 1 hour, and cool in air or inert gas.
