SAE 51431 Heat Treatments


  • Heated at 1024°C ± 14 (1875°F ± 25) for not less than 30 minutes, quenched in oil, cool to room temperature in water.
    Subzero cooled at -73°C (-100°F) for not less than 2 hours, temper in air at 288°C ± 14 (550°F ± 25) for not less than 2 hours, and retemper in air at 288°C ± 14 (550°F ± 25) for not less than 2 hours.
  • Subcritical annealed: 620-665°C; Hardened: 980-1065°C, quenching in oil or air.
