ASME SA-487 Grade CA6NM Class B Heat Treatments
- Castings shall be heat treated as follows:
Austenitized at 1010°C (1850°F), air cooled or liquid quenched to below 95°C (200°F) and double tempered as follows: Intermediate tempered at 665 - 690°C (1225 – 1275°F ), air cooled to below 95°C (200°F), and final tempered at 565 - 620°C (1050 – 1150°F). Preliminary heat treatment prior to final heat treatment as well as multiple tempering is permitted. Heat treatment shall be performed after the castings have been allowed to cool below the transformation range.
If castings are welded, they shall be post welded heat treated as follows, or re-heat treated as detailed above. Intermediate PWHT between 665°C and 690°C (1225°F and 1275°F), cool to below 95°C (200°F), and final temper between 565°C and 620°C (1050°F and 1150°F). The intermediate and final PWHT temperatures shall be the same as the intermediate and final tempering temperatures, respectively, during the original heat treatment of the castings. The minimum pre-heat temperature prior to welding shall be 10°C (50°F).
