ASME SA-487 Grade CA15 Class C Heat Treatments
- Castings shall be heat treated as follows:
Austenitized at 955°C (1750°F), air cooled or liquid quenched to below 205°C (400°F) and tempered at 620°C (1150°F) minimum. Castings shall be double tempered with the final temper at a lower temperature than the intermediate temper. Castings shall be air cooled to below 95°C (200°F) after the first temper. Preliminary heat treatment prior to final heat treatment as well as multiple tempering is permitted. Heat treatment shall be performed after the castings have been allowed to cool below the transformation range.
If castings are welded, they shall be post welded heat treated at a temperature of 620°C (1150°F) minimum, (the post weld heat treatment temperature must be at or below the final tempering temperature), or re-heat treated as detailed above. The minimum pre-heat temperature prior to welding shall be 205°C (400°F).
