SS 07 17 Heat Treatments

  • Can be heat treated in different ways. The most common heat treatments are:
    - Relaxation annealing
    - Ferritizing soft annealing
    - Bainite hardening;

    Relaxation annealing is intended to reduce internal stresses in the material without affecting the strength properties. For cast iron 07 17, 550 - 625°C and a holding time of 1 hour are recommended every 25 mm wall thickness, however at least 1 h. Free cooling.

    Ferritizing soft annealing results in high elongation values. The goods are heat-treated at 800 - 900°C after which it is allowed to cool slowly to a temperature below about 500 - 600°C.

    Bainite hardening increases strength and hardness. The goods are austenitized at 840 - 880°C, followed of isothermal conversion at 300 - 400°C in a salt bath.
