SS 17 70 Heat Treatments

  • Hot forming of springs: 900 - 800°C. Free cooling.
Stress relieving annealing: 550 - 650°C. Holding time 0.5 - 2 h. Slow cooling to approx. 500°C. Then free cooling.
    Soft annealing: 700 - 720°C. Holding time 5 - 10 h. Cooling approx. 20°C/h to 650°C. Then free cooling.
Hardening: Cooling in oil from 810 - 840°C. Tempering should take place immediately after cooling. Tempering temperature and holding time are adapted to the dimensions and required strength.
Stress-relieving annealing after cold forming: After cold forming, the spring should undergo stress-relieving annealing (tempering) at approx. 400°C. Holding time approx. 30 minutes.
