CSN 19 861 Heat Treatments
- Forging at 1100 to 900°C, slowly cool in the air or, for example, in dry ash;
Soft annealing at 780 to 820°C, warm up for several hours (by subject size), usually 4 hours and slowly cool in the oven;
Annealing to reduce strain at 700 to 750°C, heat for 1-2 hours and slowly cool in the oven;
Hardening at 1230 to 1260°C or at 1200 to 1230°C, cool in a salt bath at a temperature of 500 to 550°C or in oil, air or in the air stream;
Tempering at 560 to 580°C or at 550 to 570°C, quench 3 times, preferably 4 times, for half to 2 hours (depending on tool size). The temperature of the last tempering is chosen by about 10°C lower than at the first tempering. After tempering, cool down in the air.
