B.S. C50E Heat Treatments
- Hardening: 810-850°C (Temperatures at the lower end of the range are generally used for water, and those at the upper end for oil quenching; Time for austenitizing as a guide: at least 30 min.);
Quenching agent: Oil or water (Other quenching agents such as synthetic quenchants may also be used.);
Tempering: 550-660°C (Time for tempering as a guide: at least 1h.);
End quench test austenitizing: 850 ± 5°C (Time for austenitizing as a guide: 30-35 min.);
Normalizing: 830-870°C. - Austenitizing (quenching in water or oil): 810-85°C, t > 30 min. NOTE: The temperatures at the lower end of the range are generally applicable to hardening in water and those at the upper end for hardening in oil. Synthetic quenchants may also be used. Tempering: 550-660°C, t > 60 min. A mandatory end quench test shall be carried out at 850+/- 5°C. Normalizing: 830-870°C, t > 30 min.
