B.S. S 15 Heat Treatments
- The final heat treatment shall be:
a) Carburize the parts and carburize or blank carburize the mechanical test samples at a temperature between 880°C and 930°C.
b) Refine at a temperature between 850°C and 880°C and cool in air, oil or water. c) Harden in water from a temperature between 760°C and 780°C.
Hardening may be followed by tempering at a temperature not exceeding 200°C. If agreed between the manufacturer and the purchaser and stated on the order, the carburized parts and mechanical test samples shall be hardened by quenching in oil. a) Carburize the parts and carburize or blank carburize the mechanical test samples at a temperature between 880°C and 930°C. b) Refine at a temperature between 850°C and 880°C and cool in air, oil or water. c) Harden in water from a temperature between 760°C and 780°C.
