AA 7049 Tratamiento Térmico
- The times and temperatures are typical for various forms, sizes and methods of manufacture and may not exactly describe the optimum treatment for a specific item.
The nominal temperatures at which metal is heated (applies both for solution and precipitation heat treatment) should be attained as rapidly as possible and maintained ± 5°C of nominal during the time at temperature.
The time at precipitation heat treatment temperature will depend on time required for load to reach temperature. The times shown are based on rapid heating, with soaking time measured from the time the load reached within 5°C of the applicable temperature.
Material should be quenched from the solution heat-treating temperature as rapidly as possible and with minimum delay after removal from the furnace. Quenching is typically performed by immersion of wrought products in a cold water bath, although some forgings are quenched in hot-water. Quenching may be performed by alternative means such as total immersion in an aqueous polymer solution, liquefied gas, hot water, or boiling water, or by air blast or fog to minimize distortion provided samples from the material. The use of high-velocity high-volume jets of cold water is also effective for some materials.
For die forgings
Temper W: Solution heat treated at 470°C, quenched in water at 60°C to 80°C, naturally aged.
Temper T73: Solution heat treated at 470°C, quenched in water at 60°C to 80°C, held at room temperature for a minimum of 48 hours followed by a two-stage treatment comprised of 24 hours at 120°C followed by 10-16 hours at 165°C.
For hand forgings
Temper W: Solution heat treated at 470°C, quenched in water at 60°C to 80°C, naturally aged.
Temper W52: Solution heat treated at 470°C, quenched in water at 60°C to 80°C, naturally aged. Stress-relieved by 1-5 percent cold reduction subsequent to solution heat treatment.
Temper T73: Solution heat treated at 470°C, quenched in water at 60°C to 80°C, held at room temperature for a minimum of 48 hours followed by a two-stage treatment comprised of 24 hours at 120°C followed by 10-16 hours at 165°C.
Temper T7352: Solution heat treated at 470°C, quenched in water at 60°C to 80°C, held at room temperature for a minimum of 48 hours followed by a two-stage treatment comprised of 24 hours at 120°C followed by 10-16 hours at 165°C. Stress-relieved by 1-5 percent cold reduction prior to precipitation heat treatment.
