Optimizer: Now Officially Launched

This month marks the official launch of Optimizer as a new module within the Total Materia Horizon platform. Optimizer was developed to solve one of the biggest engineering challenges: balancing performance, cost, availability, sustainability, and compliance when selecting materials. Fully integrated with the Horizon database, it analyzes millions of data points and transforms complex material data into clear visual plots and ranked material lists. By allowing users to define priorities through simple weighting, Optimizer helps organisations make faster, more confident, and fully traceable material decisions. The result is reduced design iteration, smarter procurement choices, and a stronger link between concept, engineering, and supply chain planning.

Engineering-Grade Material Data for More Reliable CAD/CAE Workflows

Our Polish partner published a new expert article exploring why professional material databases are essential in modern CAD/CAE environments. It highlights how incomplete or outdated material data can affect design accuracy and simulation reliability, particularly for advanced analyses such as nonlinear, fatigue, and dynamic simulations that depend on precise stress–strain curves and temperature-dependent properties.
The article also shows how Total Materia supports engineers working with platforms such as SOLIDWORKS and CATIA, providing verified, continuously updated material data, global equivalencies, compliance insights, and seamless integration into CAD and CAE workflows.

This Month’s Selection of Articles
  • RESILIENCE AND TOUGHNESS IN ENGINEERING MATERIALS
This article explores how materials absorb and return energy under stress, comparing resilience in the elastic range with toughness during plastic deformation. It highlights how these properties influence material selection for real-world applications and explains how engineers use stress–strain behavior and mathematical models to predict performance in demanding conditions.

  • CASTING DEFECTS IN STEELS
Focusing on quality challenges in steel casting, this article examines the most common types of casting defects and their causes. It introduces a clear, morphology-based classification system and presents practical prevention methods to help foundries reduce scrap rates, improve consistency, and move closer to zero-defect production.
