B.S. 2014A Heat Treatments
- Solution treated 505°C ± 5°C / WQ θ ≤ 40°C + artificially aged 160°C ± 5°C / 12h ≤ t ≤ 20h or 175°C ± 5°C / 5h ≤ t ≤ 12h or 185°C ± 5°C / 3 h ≤ t ≤ 6 h.
- The material shall be supplied in one of the following conditions:
a) solution treated, straightened and aged at room temperature (temper designation T4);
b) as rolled (temper designation F).
Solution treatment: The solution treatment shall consist of heating at a temperature of 505 ± 5°C for not more than 30 min and quenching in water at a temperature not exceeding 40°C.
Ageing at room temperature: The duration of ageing at room temperature shall be not less than 5 days nor more than 10 days.
Artificial ageing: Artificial ageing by the purchaser or by the manufacturer to demonstrate convertibility shall consist of heating at a temperature of 175 ± 5°C for 9 h to 12 h.
