DEFSTAN Nickel Aluminium Bronze (NAB) Heat Treatments
- Extruded rods and sections of size 40 mm and below to be heat treated to 740 ± 20°C followed by air cooling. Rolled and forged rods and sections of size 30 mm and below to be heat treated to 740 ± 20°C followed by air cooling. The heat treatment temperature is to be for 60 minutes (-0/+10 minutes) at temperature. Forgings and forging stock, and rods, profiles and rectangular bar not covered in previous are to be supplied in one of the following conditions: 1. as hot-worked, 2. stress-relief heat treated if production has involved cold working, 3. cold sizing operations or heat treated, if such a process has been required to optimize the mechanical properties.
- Hot working range: 705 - 925°C. Cold working not advised due to rapid work hardening.
