PROPRIETARY NISIL Alloy Heat Treatments
- Annealing: The NICROSIL/NISIL alloys work similarly to Type K alloys with one exception. In making MgO insulated couples, the finished sheathed element should be annealed at temperatures below 871°C (1600°F) to prevent excess grain growth in the NISIL alloy leg. A second anneal at higher temperatures (e.g. 1093°C [2000°F]) can be used to further soften the metal sheath without producing excessive grain growth in the thermoelements.
