PROPRIETARY Hipernom Alloy Heat Treatments

  • Annealing: To obtain optimum shielding characteristics, shields should be annealed in a dry hydrogen or dissociated ammonia atmosphere with a dew point below -40°F (-40°C). Heat charge to 2150°F (1177°C) at a rate suitable to avoid shield distortion and hold at temperature for four hours, then furnace cool to 1100°F (600 °C). From 1100 to 575 °F (600 to 300°C), cool at the rate of 5/10°F (3/6°C) per minute. Vacuum heat treating can be employed, however, there may be slight sacrifice in magnetic properties. The vacuum heat treating procedure must be closely controlled to achieve best results.
