B.S. L 167 Heat Treatments


  • The solution treatment shall consist of heating at a temperature of 505 +/- 5°C for not more than 45 min. in salt or 60 min. in air, followed by quenching in water at a temperature not exceeding 40°C. Artificial ageing consist of heating at a temperature of 175+/-5°C for 7h to 12h. Artificial ageing by the purchaser or by the manufacturer to demonstrate convertibility shall consist heating at a temperature of 175 +/- 5°C for 9h to 12h. The duration of ageing at room temperature shall be not less than 5 days nor more than 10 days.
