PROPRIETARY Alloy 600 Heat Treatments

  • The alloy can only be strengthened by cold working. Annealinig is conducted to soften the material after cold working operations. Softening begins at 871°C and can be conducted to about 1149°C. At temperatures of 982°C or higher, grain growth will occur rapidly. Very short time at 1038°C may be used to soften the material without producing undue grain growth. Slow cooling or quenching produces approximately the same hardness.
  • To avoid stress corrosion cracking, the alloy 600 fabrication should be fully stress relieved prior to use. A minimum treatment of 899°C (1650°F) for 1 hour is suggested, but 982-1010°C (1800-1850°F) for 1 hour preferred.
