SAE 7349 Heat Treatments
- Solution treatment: heating to 466 to 477°C (870 to 890°F), holding at heat for a time commensurate with section thickness, and rapid cooling in a suitable quenching medium. Overaging treatment: heat to 117 to 123°C (242 to 253°F), hold at temperature for a time of 10 to 14 hr, then heat to 153 to 159°C (307 to 318°F), hold at temperature for a time of 10 to 12 hr, and air cool.
- Annealing: Soak for 2 to 3 hours at 404°C (760°F ); cool to 204°C (400°F) or lower, reheat to 232°C (450°F), and soak for 4 hours; cooling rate optional.
Solution heat treating temperature (for extrusion): 466-477°C (870- 890°F) , followed by an air cool and quenched.
