SAE 7040 Heat Treatments
- Solution heat treated at 471 to 482°C (880 to 900°F), stretched to produce a nominal permanent set of 2%, but not less than 1-1/2% nor more than 3%, and artificially aged to the T7451 temper.
- Annealing: Soak for 2 to 3 hours at 404°C (760°F ); cool to 204°C (400°F) or lower, reheat to 232°C (450°F), and soak for 4 hours; cooling rate optional.
Solution heat treating temperature (for plate): 471-488°C (880- 910°F) , followed by an air cool and quenched.
