SAE 2397 Heat Treatments
- Solution heat treated at 516 to 527°C (960 to 980°F); stretched to produce a nominal permanent set of 2.75% but not less than 1.5% nor more than 4%; artificially aged at 160°C (320°F) for 59 to 61 hours, to the T87 temper.
- Annealing: Soak for 2 to 3 hours at 404°C (760°F); cool at rate of 28°C (50°F) per hour or slower to 260°C (500°F ); further cooling rate optional.
Solution heat treating temperature (for plate): 516-527°C (960- 980°F) , followed by an air cool and quenched.
