SAE EK41A Heat Treatments
- Castings and representative tensile specimens shall be precipitation heat treated by heating to not higher than 475°F (245°C), holding at heat for the proper time, and cooling in air. Specimens shall be put into a batch-type furnace with each load of castings or into a continuous furnace at intervals of not longer than three hours; At 260°C: Heated to 500°F ± 5 (260°C ± 3), held at heat for 10 - 20 min. before testing, and tested at 500°F ± 5 (260°C ± 3) with the rate of strain maintained at not greater than 0.05 in./in. per min. (0.05 mm/mm per min.) through the yield strength and at a rate of 0.11 - 0.14 in./in. per min. (0.11 - 0.14 mm/mm per min.) above the yield strength.
