PROPRIETARY Vicalloy 1 Heat Treatments

  • Heating to approximately 1180°C and cooling quickly or slowly, whichever is convenient, produces a hardness of about Rc 20. Heavy sections of bar should be quenched in oil to obtain rapid cooling to room temperature. After fabrication in this state, the magnetic properties are obtained by a final aging treatment at about 600°C for 2 to 6 hours. This increases the hardness to Rc 60 or higher. Aging should be done in a nonoxidizing atmosphere such as hydrogen.
