SAE Ti-4.5Al-3V-2Fe-2Mo Heat Treatments

  • Solution Heat Treatment
When solution heat treatment is used, heat to a temperature within the range 28 to 83°C (50 to 150°F) below the beta transus, hold at the selected temperature within ±14°C (±25°F) for a time commensurate with section thickness and the heating equipment and procedure used, and cool at a rate equivalent to an air cool or faster.
    Annealing
Heat to a temperature within the range 677 to 760°C (1250 to 1400°F), hold at the selected temperature within ±14°C (±25°F) for a time commensurate with section thickness and the heating equipment and procedure used. After being heated to any temperature up to 677°C (1250°F), held at heat for 20 minutes ± 3 minutes, cooled in air, and descaled.
  • Annealed: Heating to a temperature within the range 682 - 760°C (1260 - 1400°F), holding at the selected temperature within ±14°C (±25°F) for a time commensurate with product thickness and the heating equipment and procedure used, and cooling.
Tensile properties were obtained after reheating the specimen to 718 ± 14°C (1325 ± 25°F), holding at heat for 20 ± 5 minutes, and cooling at a rate equivalent to an air cool or slower.
