SAE Ti-15V-3Al-3Cr-3Sn Heat Treatments
- Solution heat treated by heating to a temperature within the range 788 to 816°C (1450 to 1500°F), holding at the selected temperature within ±14°C (±25°F) for 3 to 30 minutes, and cooling.
After Precipitation Heat Treatment at 510°C (950°F): Heating to 510°C ± 6 (950°F ± 10), holding at heat for 8 hours ± 0.5, and cooling in air or faster.
After Precipitation Heat Treatment at 482°C (900°F): Heating to 482°C ± 6 (900°F ± 10), holding at heat for 16 hours ± 0.5, and cooling in air. - Beta annealing shall consist of soaking at 28°C ± 14°C (50°F ± 25°F) above the known beta transus temperature of the heat of material.
Stress relieving temperature shall be 28°C (50°F) below the aging temperature, cooling rate shall be air cool or faster below 454°C (850°F).
Solution heat treated at 788°C (1450°F), quenching for:
1. t < 12.7 mm, air cool or faster;
2. 12.7 < t < 51 mm, air, oil, polymer;
3. t > 51 mm, water.
Solution heat treatment soak times:
1. t < 2.54 mm for minimum 30 min;
2. 2.56 < t < 5.08 mm for minimum 31 min;
3. 5.10 < t < 7.62 mm for minimum 32 min;
4. 7.64 < t < 10.16 mm for minimum 33 min;
5. 10.18 < t < 12.7 mm for minimum 34 min;
6. 12.72 < t < 15.24 mm for minimum 35 min;
7. 15.26 < t < 17.78 mm for minimum 36 min;
8. 17.8 < t < 20.32 mm for minimum 37 min;
9. 20.34 < t < 22.86 mm for minimum 38 min;
10. 22.88 < t < 25.4 mm for minimum 39 min.;
11. 25.42 < t < 38.1 mm for minimum 59 min;
12. 38.13 < t <50.8 mm for minimum 79 min.
Aging at 510°C (950°F) for 8h for thicknesses up to 2.5 mm, add 20 min for each additional 12.7 mm or fraction thereof.
