SAE 5856 Heat Treatments
- Solution Heat Treatment: Heat to a temperature within the range 1190°C - 1220°C (2175°F - 2225°F), hold at the selected temperature within ± 84°C (±15°F ) for 2 hr ± 0.3, and quench in oil.
Stabilization Heat Treatment: Heat to 1120°C ± 8°C (2050°F ± 15°F), hold at heat for 2 hr ± 0.3, and cool in air to below 370°C (700°F)
Precipitation Heat Treatment: Heat to 705°C ± 8°C (1300°F ± 15°F), hold at heat for 12 hr ± 0.5, cool in air to below 370°C (700°F), reheat to 815°C ± 8°C (1500°F ± 15°F), hold at heat for 8 hr ± 0.5, and cool in air.
