B.S. NA 19 Heat Treatments
- Solution treatment: wire up to and including 1.6 mm diameter shall be heated uniformly at a temperature within the range of 1050 to 1100°C in a protective atmosphere, followed by cooling in a water-cooled zone under the same protective atmosphere.Wire greater than 1.6 mm diameter shall be heated uniformly at a temperature within the range 1050 to 1100°C, followed by quenching in water.
Precipitation treatment: cold-drawn wire is normally precipitation treated by heating to a temperature of 650 ± 10°C for 4 h followed by cooling in air. Cold-drawn and solution-treated wire is normally precipitation treated by heating to a temperature of 750 ± 10°C for 4 h followed by cooling in air.
