SAE Ti-3Al-8V-6Cr-4Mo-4Zr Heat Treatments

  • Bars and forgings shall be solution heat treated and aged. Solution heat treat by heating to a temperature within the range 788 to 927°C (1450 to 1700°F), holding at the selected temperature within ±14°C (±25°) for a time commensurate with section thickness and the heating equipment and procedure used, and water quenched, air or fan cooled, and aged at 468 to 621°C (875 to 1150°F), holding at the selected temperature within ±8°C (±15°F) for 2 to 30 hours.
  • Product shall be solution treated at 790-925°C (1450-1700°F) holding at the selected temperature within ± 14°C (± 25°F) for a time commensurate with the thickness and the heating equipment and procedure used, with a cooling rate equivalent to an air cool or faster and cold drawn to reduce cross sectional area by 20-35%.

Aging by heating to a temperature within the range 482-566°C (900-1050°F), holding at the selected temperature within ± 6°C (± 10°F) for 6-12 hours, and cooling in air.
