SAE 7175 Heat Treatments
- Solution heat treat at 466°C ± 6 (870°F ± 10).
Overaging heat treatment: recommended practice is heating to 107°C ± 6 (225°F ± 10) for 6 to 8 hours followed by 177°C ± 6 (350°F ± 10) for 6 to 8 hours. - Annealing: Soak for 2 to 3 hours at 404°C (760°F ); cool to 204°C (400°F) or lower, reheat to 232°C (450°F), and soak for 4 hours; cooling rate optional.
Solution heat treating temperature (for plate, extrusion): 471-488°C (880- 910°F) , followed by an air cool and quenched.
Procedures for solution heat treatment of forgings are proprietary.
