SAE 243.0 Heat Treatments
- During melting, the metal shall be heated to not higher than 1500°F (815°C). The temperature of metal being poured into the mold shall not exceed 1375°F (745°C). Stabilization heat treated by heating uniformly to 600°F ± 10 (315°C ± 5) holding at heat for not less than 5 hr, and cooling in air.
- Solution heat treatment shall be at the temperature: 518°C (965°F), minimum soak time is 2 hours and Quenched;
Temper after Solution treatment shall be T41 and delay at room temperature.
Annealing at 427°C (800°F), minimum soak time is 1 hour; Air cooling;
Aging (precipitation heat treatment):
Condition before Aging W or T41;
Aging at 232°C (425°F), soak time is 2-3 hours;
Temper T61 after Aging.
