SAE 336.0 Heat Treatments
- Temper T551
Permanent Mold Castings
Precipitation Heat Treated at 204 ± 6°C (400 ± 10°F), 7-9 hours;
Temper T65
Permanent Mold Castings
Solution Heat Treated (1) at 516 ± 6°C (960 ± 10°F), 8 hours;
Precipitation Heat Treated at 204 ± 6°C (400 ± 10°F), 7-9 hours;
(1) Quench in water at 65 to 100°C (150 to 212°F) except as noted. - Solution heat treatment shall be at the temperature: 513°C (955°F), minimum soak time is 6 hours and Quenched;
Temper after Solution treatment shall be T45 and delay at room temperature.
Annealing at 441°C (825°F), minimum soak time is 1 hour; Air cooling;
Aging (precipitation heat treatment):
Condition before Aging W or T45;
Aging at 171°C (340°F), soak time is 14-18 hours;
Temper T65 after Aging.
