SAE 328.0 Heat Treatments


  • Temper T6
    Sand Castings:
    Solution Heat Treated (1) at 516 ± 6°C (960 ± 10°F), 8-12 hours;
    Precipitation Heat Treated at 154 ± 6°C (310 ± 10°F), 2-5 hours.

    (1) Quench in water at 65 to 100°C (150 to 212°F) except as noted.
  • Solution heat treatment shall be at the temperature: 516°C (960°F), minimum soak time is 12 hours and Quenched;
    Temper after Solution treatment shall be T4 and delay at room temperature.
    Annealing at 441°C (825°F), minimum soak time is 1 hour; Air cooling;
    Aging (precipitation heat treatment):
    Condition before Aging W or T4;
    Aging at 154°C (310°F), soak time is 2-5 hours;
    Temper T6 after Aging.
