PROPRIETARY TSP4 Heat Treatments

  • Soft annealing: temperature: 870 - 900°C. Slow cooling in the furnace at 10°C/hour down to 540°C, then air cooling.
    Stress relief:
After machining and before heat treatment, it is recommended to perform stress relief at 650°C for a minimum of 2 hours, followed by slow cooling in the furnace to 450°C.
After machining by electrical discharge machining in the treated state, it is recommended to perform stress relief at 20°C below the last tempering temperature for a duration of 2 hours.
    Austenitization: recommended temperature: 1160 - 1180°C.
Quenching medium: oil at 80°C, vacuum (pressure > 6 bar, recommended quenching speed: 7°C/s), salt bath 500 - 550°C.
Cold treatment: for parts that must have high dimensional stability and to increase wear resistance without reducing toughness, it is recommended to perform cold treatment at a temperature between -110°C and -190°C for 1 hour per 25 mm of part thickness. This treatment transforms the residual austenite (unstable and relatively soft phase) into martensite (stable and hard). This treatment is optional for standard applications.
Tempering: to ensure a minimal residual austenite rate and greater tool stability, triple tempering is essential. A duration of 2 hours for each tempering cycle is recommended.
