PROPRIETARY N690 EXTRA Heat Treatments
- Annealing: 800-850°C (1472-1562°F); Slow cooling;
Stress relieving: aprox. 650°C (1202°F); After warming up completely, keep at temperature for 1 to 2 hours in a neutral atmosphere. Slow furnace cooling
Hardening and tempering:
1. 1000-1060°C (1832-1940°F); Oil, N2 - holding time after complete soaking, max. 30 minutes / 25 mm cross section.
2. 150-350°C (302-662°F); Tempering treatment required after hardening to the desired working hardness - see tempering chart. Tempering immediately after hardening and quenching to room temperature of min. 2h after complete soaking. Note: Tempering temperatures above 400°C are reducing corrosion resistance and toughness.
Others: -70 to -80°C (-94 to -112°F); Subzero treatment should follow hardening immediately. Recommended soaking max. 2 hrs. Optional treatment for best dimensional stability.
