- Normalizing: 850-880°C (1562-1616°F); air cooling
Case hardening: 880-980°C (1616-1796°F); When direct hardening, carburising is generally carried out below 950°C (1740°F). Carburising temperatures up to over 1000°C (1830°F) are used in special cases. Cooling from case hardening temperature Oil (water), salt bath (160-250°C / 320-480°F);
Hardening and tempering: 840-880°C (1544-1616°F); Oil (water), salt bath (160-250 °C [320-480°F]) After hardening, tempering to the desired working hardness at 150-200°C (300-390°F) Achievable core strength: min. 1080 MPa /157 ksi
