B.S. 3F Heat Treatments
- Hardening: Heated slowly at 900-1000°C for 2-4h. Air cooled or oil quenched.
Tempering after hardening: Heated slowly at 200-550°C and held for time appropriate to the section size. Air cooled or furnace cooled.
The recommended annealing heat treatments:
1. Heated slowly at 750°C for a minimum of 4h, furnace cooled down to 600°C
2. Heated slowly at 920-975°C, for a minimum of 1h, slow cooled in the furnace between 810-815°C and then down to 600°C at a rate not exceeding 55°C/h. Subsequent cooling may be in the furnace or still air.
