SEW X 30 WCrV 5 3 Heat Treatments

  • Soft annealing: Slowly heated at 750-800°C, held for several hours, slowly cooled, preferably in the furnace.
The soft annealing is most appropriate for machining and cold working and provides the most favorable initial structure for tool hardening.

Hardening: Heated at 1060-1100°C, held for 15-30 minutes, oil quenched or hardened in warm bath at 500-550°C.

Stress relief annealing: Slowly heated 650°C, held for 1-2 hours, slowly cooled in the furnace.

Steel is nitrided in salt baths, gas or powder. The nitriding layer thickness may be 0.01-0.3 mm depending on necessity and method and is usually 0.1 mm.
