PROPRIETARY HS 6-5-2C Heat Treatments

  • Hot-forming: 1100 - 900°C. Stress-relieving after machining and before quenching: 600 - 650°C, furnace cooling to 400°C, then air. Pre-heating: 450°C, pause, then 850°C, pause, then 1050°C, pause. Quenching heatings must be carried out in controlled atmosphere furnace: 1180 - 1230°C, oil polymer forced air or salt bath (500 - 550°C). 1° Tempering immediately after quenching: 540 - 560°C, calm air. 2° Tempering: 500 - 550°C, calm air. Soft annealing: 820°C furnace cooling to 550°C, then air. Isothermal annealing: 870°C furnace cooling to 700°C, then air. All high-speed steels must be annealed after hot-forming. Mechanical properties at different tempering temperatures obtained after quenching at 1210°C in oil.
