B.S. S 14 Heat Treatments
- The final heat treatment shall be:
a) Carburize the parts and carburize or blank carburize the mechanical test samples at a temperature between 880°C and 930°C.
b) Refine at a temperature between 870°C and 900°C and cool in air, oil or water.
c) Harden in water from a temperature between 760°C abd 780°C.
Hardening may be followed by tempering at a temperature not exceeding 200°C; If agreed between the manufacturer and the purchaser and stated on the order, the carburized parts and mechanical test samples shall be hardened by quenching in oil.
