DEFSTAN Q2 (Navy) Heat Treatments
- A suitable austenitising temperature, not exceeding 955°C. The tempering treatment is to be carried out at a temperature not less than 620°C. Water quenching from the tempering temperature is mandatory. When necessary, double tempering is permitted. When stress relief is specified by the purchaser, it is to be carried out at a temperature at least 20°C below the final tempering temperature, but not less than 600°C. Water quenching from stress relief temperature is mandatory.
- Final tempering temperature is to be not less than 595°C.
