PROPRIETARY ATI 403 Heat Treatments

Annealed at 816-899°C (1500-1650°F), followed by a slow cool to 593°C (1100°F), and a final air cool.
Material may be fully hardened by oil quenching from 899-982°C (1650-1800°F). Light sections may be hardened by air or fan cooling. This alloy will harden, to varying degrees, when cooled from temperatures above 816°C (1500°F) unless it is slowly cooled to below the critical temperature or held for sufficient length of time at a temperature below the critical temperature.
Tempering may be done at a temperature between 204°C (400°F) and 760°C (1400°F), but it is advisable to avoid the 427°C (800°F) to 593°C (1100°F) range due to a decrease in impact properties and corrosion resistance.
Forging or rolling: a starting temperature between 1093°C (2000°F) and 1148°C (2100°F) is recommended for forging, with a finishing temperature above 760°C (1400°F).
