PROPRIETARY BÖHLER V354 Heat Treatments


  • Normalizing: 840 - 920°C (1545 - 1690°F), air cooling. Annealing: 730 - 750°C (1345 - 1380°F), controlled, slow cooling in furnace at a rate of 10 - 20°C/h (18 - 36°F/h) down to approx. 600°C (1110°F), further cooling in air. Stress relieving: In the hardened and tempered (heat treated) condition approx. 30 - 50°C (85 - 120°F) below tempering temperature. For all other conditions 600 - 650°C (1110 - 1200°F). After through soaking keep 1 - 2 hours in neutral atmosphere / slow cooling in furnace. Hardening: 960 - 990°C (1760 - 1815°F), oil, air. Tempering: 600 - 740°C (1110 - 1365°F), slow heating to tempering temperature immediately after hardening/time in furnace: 1 hour for every 20 mm of workpiece thickness, but not less than 2 hours/ air cooling. Gas nitriding: 490 - 510°C (915 - 950°F).
