PROPRIETARY Hiperco 15 Alloy Heat Treatments
- Optimum magnetic properties will be achieved if annealed in a dry hydrogen atmosphere. A high vacuum furnace can also be used. For heavy gage strip or bulk parts, anneal at 2156°F (1180°C) for 6 hours then cool to 1600°F (871°C) at any cool rate. From 1600°F to 1200°F (871°C to 649°C), cool at a rate not to exceed 150°F (83°C) per hour, and at any rate thereafter. For thin gage (<0.030 inch (0.762 mm) thickness) strip, insulation powders should be used to avoid sticking if annealed at 2156°F (1180°C). For applications with working points being designed at near magnetic saturation or where slightly higher coercivity is acceptable or even desired, a 1400°F (760°C) annealing cycle is recommended for lowering heat treatment cost. Anneal at 1400°F (760°C) for 4 hours and cool at a rate not to exceed 150°F (83°C) per hour to 1200°F (649°C) and at any rate thereafter.
