MIL A-46173 Class 1 Heat Treatments
- All plates (class 1) in each lot, including samples, shall receive the same heat treatment except for such variations in tempering temperature as may be necessary to produce the hardness . In no case should the tempering temperature exceed 425°F (218°C) for class I armor. The austenitizing temperature may vary within a range of 50°F (10°C) above the temperature used for test plates, but in no case shall it exceed 1550°F (843°C).
