MIL S-860B Grade F Heat Treatments
- Heat treatment shall consist of quenching and tempering or normalizing and tempering. No straightening by any means is permissible after heat treatment form mechanical properties. Minimum tempering temperatures 1100°F (593°C). After heat treatment for mechanical properties and prior to heat stability testing, the forgings shall be rough machined completely and then stress relieved at a temperature 50°F (10°C) to 100°F(38°C). Below the final tempering temperature the forging shall be held at the stress relief temperature for a period of 2h per inch of maximum redial thickness.
